General Election, November 3rd, 2020
Absentee Voting continues now though Monday, November 2nd, at the Palo Alto County Auditor’s Office.
We are open 8 am. to 4 p.m.
Saturday, October 31, 2020, we will be open from 8 am to 5 pm for in-person absentee voting.
We can no longer mail out absentee ballots. Anyone who has requested ballot by mail, please return to the Auditor’s as soon as possible.

2020 General Election
Voter ID Required: As of January 1, 2019, all voters are required to present an approved form of identification at the polling place before receiving and casting a ballot.
Approved Forms of ID: Iowa Driver’s License; Iowa Non-Operator ID; U.S. Passport; U.S. Military ID or Veteran ID; Iowa Voter Identification Card; Tribal ID Card/Document.

- Monday, October 5th, 2020: In-person absentee voting begins at the County Auditor’s office, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. & ends on Monday, November 2, 2020, at 4:00 p.m.
- Vote by mail by submitting an absentee ballot request form. Forms must be received by 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2020.
- In-person absentee voting at the County Auditor’s Office on Saturday, October 24th and Saturday, October 31st from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Tuesday, November 3, 2020, General Election Day: Polls Open 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Vote at your assigned polling place at Graettinger Public Library, West Bend Public Library or Emmetsburg Election Center.

Palo Alto County is located in the northwest region of the state of Iowa. The county has a total area of 569 square miles that contain a variety of lakes including Five Island Lake, Lost Island Lake, Rush Lake, and Silver Lake. Communities include Ayrshire, Curlew, Cylinder, Emmetsburg, Graettinger, Mallard, Rodman, Ruthven and West Bend.
The population of Palo Alto County is 9,421 (according to the 2010 census). County business is done at the county seat in Emmetsburg. Most offices are located at the historic 1880s courthouse located downtown near the business district.
